Virtualize a physical debian server to ESX/vSphere

Howto virtualize a physical debian server to ESX/vSphere?
Can I use Vmware Converter, if yes which version?

Not sure what you mean which version. This pdf ought to help in deciding what you can get for free or what needs to be bought. Also note how one can do it either hot or cold.

One could still use other tools like clonezilla or dd to make a vm with some other edits.
