Unhappy VirtualBox on Debian

To get VirtualBox to run on Debian, I had to use version 3.0. It seems that the latest version should run better, and I don't understand that. Now with VB ver 3.0 I still have problems: My "guest" is Windows XP Home, and some functions will not work. The minor problems are: mouse cannot be set to go automatically to default button, scrolling gets way behind and then won't stop, Microsoft Word cannot print envelopes. The MAJOR problem is that I can't get my Dymo Printer to work at all; I have to go back to a native Windows computer to use it. This is a hassle because I need it for business. To use the Dymo printer I had to get latest versions of Java and Dymo driver, etc., and it works fine. I'm still a newbie, so please reply in simple terms. Thanks much.

Did you install the guest additions? Also are you using the ose version or the full version? Also I think windows uses Samba to poll for printers (assuming your trying to share over the network). If your using NAT you need to forward those ports. Down side to doing that is you'll lose SAMBA access on the host (I believe). If you can't do that you can always bridge the connection which will make the virtual os appear on the network like a real computer.

To forward ports from the guest to the host you can do the following may vary depending on which network driver your using (This is for SSH):
	~# VBoxManage setextradata "name-of-virtual-os" "VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/ssh/HostPort" 22
	~# VBoxManage setextradata "name-of-virtual-os" "VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/ssh/GuestPort" 22
	~# VBoxManage setextradata "name-of-virtual-os" "VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/ssh/Protocol" TCP

First off, I see that my bio (or whatever it's called) is grossly out of date. I've been using Debian Lenny for about a year, but not exclusively because I'm not yet able to get along without some of the Windows applications. I installed VirtualBox about six months ago, tried various versions unsuccessfully and ended up with version 3.0. I don't remember if I installed the guest additions, but I think I did. A few days ago I decided to experiment with a spare computer by loading Debian into that, with the idea that I could manipulate things without interfering with my main computer. Now a new problem has surfaced: I can't get Debian net-install to fetch the software from any mirror. Installation proceeds normally to that point and then stops - no error messages, no progress on the progress bar. I've tried this with three different mirror sites. I think I need to solve this before I worry more about VirtualBox.
