vanilla sources, huh? why?

I'm trying to compile, the latest kernel, but for the first time I got this error:

Code:
malibu:/usr/src/linux# make menuconfig
Makefile:312: /scripts/Kbuild.include: No such file or directory
Makefile:484: .config: No such file or directory
Makefile:530: /arch//Makefile: No such file or directory
Makefile:991: *** target pattern contains no `%'. Stop.
Any ideas, why?

Also:

Code:
malibu:/usr/src/linux# uname -a
Linux malibu 2.6.12-1-386 #1 Tue Sep 27 12:41:08 JST 2005 i686 GNU/Linux
Thank you in advance
