USB2.0 HDD and NTFS on debian sarge

Hello!

I have partitionned my USB2.0 HDD into one NTFS and one reiserfs partition.

using usbmount, I can get these partition to automount but I can't get r/w permissions to work for all users.

I have installed ntfs progs with libntfs5 but still it doesn't work.

- how can get usbmount/udev to automount my reiserfs partition in r/w for the user ?

- what else to do for ntfs so that it does give r/w permissions as well?

- how to allow the user to unmount these partitions?

- can I then fine tune using hdparam?

I am using debian sarge with its 2.6.8 based kernel.

Thanks,
ptawe.

If mounting using the /etc/fstab file then add the option umask=0000 for ntfs.
For the reiserfs I would chmod the directory before mount and after mount.
chmod 777 -R /directory_name_mount_point or 666 should be enough.

You can learn more on both commands using the comman man.
man mount
man chmod

Thanks for these suggestions, I was trying to get udev and usbmount to work because when using fstab it causes problem when booting because the drive is not always connected at boot time.

When using umask=0000 I still couldn't write to it. Am I doing anything wrong when setting up ntfsprogs?

Thanks,
ptawe

Maybe it needs to be umask=000 and not 4 zeros.
