usb mouse going crazy

I am using a microsoft usb optical mouse, and I have configured it to be psaux. In gnome though, the mouse pointer goes everywhere! It is also doing clicks for me and I can't control it! Any suggestions? This is in debian 3r1 on a laptop. Thanks
