USB automount options

What is the concensus on the best implementation to automount/unmount USB storage devices ? In particular for users running a 2.6.x kernel and KDE 3.3.2 ?

Looks like usbmount + udev, pmount + HAL, and scripts called direct from hotplug events are all valid ways to accomplish this, and can handle dynamic assignment of devices without the necessity of having extra entries in your fstab.

What have your experiences been with these methods ? Also, I'm intersted in trying a script from a Gentoo forum (see final script posted on last page, and sorry about this URL format not being a hyperlink)

forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=113911&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=usb+automount+hotplug+script&start=50

If anyone can try this script out, let me know. I don't have a /block directory in /etc/hotplug.d, so I'm not sure where to drop the script so it will get called. (Also, see notes in Gentoo thread if you have udev installed).

I don't like anything to be automounted, (scratch that, main HD FS's OK). I tried the Mandriva Supermount and Hotplug and disabled all of it. Call it "Old School" or whatever, but I like to mount things myself...
