upgrading tetex-bin

Hello.
I have a problem when, during an apt-get upgrade, tetex-bin is supposed to be configured. The error occurs as initex is run, and this prevents further installation (tetex-extra).
The error is as follows:
Code:
Setting up tetex-bin (2.0.2-17) ...
Regenerating /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf ... done
Regenerating /var/lib/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf ... done
Regenerating /var/lib/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg ... done
Running initex. This may take some time. ...
fmtutil: config file `fmtutil.cnf' not found.

fmtutil failed. Output has been stored in
/tmp/<whatever>
and there's nothing in /tmp/<whatever>
(the file exist, but it's empty)

What's wrong with this?

Thanks a lot.

It is a bug it looks like you did not accept the update to the configuration file. You may want to try apt-get install --reinstall tetex-bin and answer yes to the new config file.

Thanks for the info, but it does not work; it does not ask me anything about the new config file, reproducing the same error. Should I purge tetex-bin and perform a brand new install? What else?

Thank you

It is definitely worth a try and you may want to change to the apt cache ( cd /var/cache/apt/archives ) and install the old package with dpkg ( dpkg -i tetex-bin_old_version_number ) if it is still there to downgrade to a known working package.

That's annoying... I found tetex-bin version 2.0.2-15 on the debian site, but it does not work.
I tried to remove tetex-bin, but this results in removing some other stuff...
Do you think this kind of bug would be solved soon?

Thanks.

I just had the same problem and resolved it with
dpkg --purge --force-depends tetex-bin
which removes tetex-bin regardless of dependencies, and
dpkg -i tetex-extra_2.0.2b-3_all.deb
to install the new one (and to satisfy the dependencies again).

Thanks for your answer, tsadowski, but I fixed it with the new release of the debian package, that is 2.0.2-19.
