Upgrading SARGE to Kernel 2.6 w/o networking...

I just did a search on how to get the module for my onboard nForce networking to work and I've read it's easier to upgrade the kernel to the 2.6 series which naitivly supports it. How do I upgrade to the 2.6 series on my SARGE install without networking available (no apt-get)? Or is it easier to re-run the installer with the 2.6 kernel option?

There should be a 2.6 kernel on the install cd you used. There is on my cd. When you do the initial install if you just hit enter it will go with w 2.4 kernel, but if you chose linux26 or expert26 as your boot option at install you will get the 2.6 kernel. Actually it will give you a choice of whatever kernel you want, 2.6.3 or 2.6.5, and some others as well. You can use the cd as an apt source and use apt-get install kernel-image-<whatever> and this will get you the new kernel, be sure to apt-get the kernel headers as well.
