There should be a 2.6 kernel on the install cd you used. There is on my cd. When you do the initial install if you just hit enter it will go with w 2.4 kernel, but if you chose linux26 or expert26 as your boot option at install you will get the 2.6 kernel. Actually it will give you a choice of whatever kernel you want, 2.6.3 or 2.6.5, and some others as well. You can use the cd as an apt source and use apt-get install kernel-image-<whatever> and this will get you the new kernel, be sure to apt-get the kernel headers as well.
