upgrade Debian 8.11 to Debian 10?

I moved two years ago and just recently was able to get internet access at my new house. I upgraded my Debian 8 system to release 8.11 a week ago. Now I want to upgrade from Debian 8.11 to the current version of Debian 10. Can I upgrade directly from 8.11 to 10 without upgrading to Debian 9 as an intermediate step?

It's been a while since I've read anything about his, but, to the best of my recollection, it's recommended to upgrade to the next version release and not to try to skip over a version. Unfortunately, I can't provide a cite other than memory.

No, you can't skip a release, unless doing a clean install.

I did this last year, and as has been said, I had to do 8->9 and 9->10 separately.

Anyway, you'll want to read the upgrade section of the release notes for both...

Debian 8 to 9: https://www.debian.org/releases/stre...rading.en.html
Debian 9 to 10: https://www.debian.org/releases/bust...rading.en.html

(Also, something not in those notes is the risk of it screwing up networking config.)

I busy with the Debian server8--> 10 , I coudl nox twice an upgrade.... but the moment one may have a problem... one may become a next point of issues added to the list concerning this route... to be added...

So i prefer a clean install... my data are always in another section and they are backupped....

THE advantage of a clean install: You really learn the new things of Debian 10 and how to deal with it.
Some programs may have exports for settings, so remaining how long your list is of inconvenient stuff to do ..
Hen I'm ready I make a full image disk, so in case of a problem I'n line in a few minutes again.
Boot disks do not need to be very expensive to work proper.

The choice... its up to the user.

Thanks to all. I'll go 8 to 9 to 10.
