Updating more debian machines at once ?
 

Hi all,

at my home I have one dedicated machine which serve as firewall. On firewall is running debian, in internal network I have 3 more debian machines. When I do apt-get update from that machines in order to update systems I realised that I taking same packages for 2 or 3 times...of course for every different machine. Is there any way to take packets only one from debian mirrors and apply them on all machines.

I need some hints about this, just directions what to enter in google and try to find it. Any suggestion is welcome.

Yes, apt automatically creates a cache of .deb files, you can set it up so one machine these to the others on you're network. It even works that if debA has the cache, but debB wants a pacakge that isn't in the cache, bebA will download it, give it to debB and keep a copy incase debC wants it later.

There are guides around the internet, I'll try and fine one for you.

Not too sure if its a good idea to use the firewall to serve the cache.

you can use apt-proxy or apt-cacher, and probobly other things I found an apt proxy guide at

Yah, I'll second Tortanick there in saying that you probably need to be using a caching system like apt-cacher. I use it at home for my four debian systems (doesn't really work for the gentoo test box) and it works quite nicely.
