Update Manager for the past three weeks has shown three updates which are two KDE Application Platform packages and org.freedesktop.platform. Using the Command Line for update/upgrade does not install these three packages. My question is why not and why must these three packages be installed from Update Manager? Running LMDE here.

And since you don't tell us what version/distro you're using (assuming Debian from the forum), what these package names are, what you're typing in, and what you see as the result of that command, what do you think anyone will be able to tell you??
Again: you need to provide actual details before anyone will be able to help you.
Distribution: Ubuntu based stuff for the most part

Are the KDE apps something you installed from KDE like themes or other window decorations? Update Manager will pull in updates for these items from the KDE shop as well as normal packages.

Thanks. You explained it! Will delete these from Update Manager.
