unable to print

I had settup my printer correctly in Sarge. Afterwards, i did a dist-upgrade to Etch. It was then, as far as i can remember, that i started being unable to print. I have to mention too, that i tried to update my 2.6.8+hotplug kernel to 2.6.15+udev -having updated to Etch first, but because of the sound problems, i removed it.

I use a Kyocera-Mita FS-1010 USB laser printer, with a good linux support. I use the PPD provide and CUPS.

In the web iface of CUPS, i also get this:
Code:
Description:
Location: /dev/lp0
Printer State: stopped, accepting jobs.
"Unable to open USB device "usb:/dev/usb/lp0": No such device"
Device URI: usb:/dev/usb/lp0
Ideas? I think the problem has to do with the usb... Not sure howver. Thanks

Have you tried printing as root to make sure it isn't a permissions problem?

If you haven't done this already, you might try activating the /dev Filesystem Support option in the Filesystems kernel configuration area, and make sure this filesystem is activated at boot.

Good luck!

Hi

You should have an entry in /etc/usb/lp0. That seems to be missing. Try typing:

Quote:
lsusb
This will give a listing of connected usb devices. UDEV should pick this up at boot time.

Hope this helps

Bob
