Unable to play VCDs with Xine. Where can I get mplayer for Debian?

I am currently unable to play VCDs with Xine. It exits with an error message that I cannot read because it disappears quickly. I think it's something to do with not recognizing the format.

Does anybody know how to play VCDs and where I can get mplayer? There's no mplayer in the Debian Repositories.

While some people have claimed to see mplayer in a package format, typically you have to compile it. You can find it at www.mplayerhq.hu/ and the guide is really simple if you read it first. If you don't read all of it first, your likely to miss out on the w32 codec installation

You can get .debs from nerim.net or something like that Just google debian install mplayer

Never mind, xine works.

I tried to open the DAT file directly rather than playing the disk as a VCD.

Thanks anyway! :)
