Unable to install Debian 5
Hello,
I'm trying to install Debian 5 from the DVD #1. After I choose either Install/Graphical Install, the screen remains black and nothing happens. I have to reboot from the reset button, CTRL+ALT+DEL does not work. When installing in text mode, it seems to stop right after the Booting Kernel and there's a bug saying "Timer not connected...." If you have any advices I'd appreciate it! Thanks! |
Try using the
noapic option at boot. I'm not sure which key you should hit to get to the boot prompt, but it should help. |

Have you tried any of the boot options such as noapic?. Somewhere in the installer menu are boot options/parameters. I'm sure i have an old Lenny disc around,I'll have a look and post back. |
Ok,just tried the disc.
If you select help from the installer menu you will have a command prompt at the bottom of the screen. Try install noapic then hit enter. See how that goes. |
You're right, the bug thing I get too when my Ubuntu starts up.
Gonna try the noapic and get back with the results. Thanks. |
No effect. Stops at:
Code:
Booting the Kernel. |
Can you post the full error message?.
Maybe you need another boot parameter. |
Try combining the noapic option with
nolapic_timer I had a problem like that sometime ago... |

I've just installed VirtualBox on my Ubuntu, it works in the virtual machine to boot, but not on my laptop. Does that help? I'll also try to combine the boot parameters, thanks guys! |
It worked, adding the nolapic_timer ! Thanks!
