Trying to get kooka scan an image in sarge

Hi all,
I have an Epson 1260 flatbad scanner(USB)..All other distros had no trouble installing and running the scanner with kooka..
Debian kooka refuses to list or select the scanner..
When as root I type "scanimage -L" the correct scanner shows up and if
I type "xsane" I gan get the scanner to operate with the limited graphical mode..
But Kooka refuses..
Anyone hava any suggestions as to how to get kooka see my scanner?
this is the scanimage -L results...Is there some package I need?

Linux:/home/MyUID# scanimage -L
device `plustek:libusb:002:005' is a Epson Perfection 1260/Photo USB flatbed scanner

Thanks,
jolphil

Hi sls,
Thank you for your suggestion...
I followed your post and did add my user name to the scanner from a SU terminal..It said it added my user name but unfortunately Kooka still won't see the scanner device..
Thank you, and if you can think of anything I have not tried please post..
jolphil

EDIT!!! Bingo sls you are the man..Had to log out and then it found it on login..
Thank you again..
