troubles with "alien" and linuxconf

hello,

i recently switched (again, this time for good) to debian...but i have a problem. I am hopelessly addicted to the GUI, and need a gui system config tool.

Being a previous mandrake user, i fell in love with the Mandrake Controll Center and Linuxconf.

I downloaded, from the linuxconf website, the linuxconf RPM. I then used the "alien" program to convert it to a .deb package, and used dpkg to install it.

here is the problem: i can't find the darn program! I tried becoming root and typing in "linuxconf" in the command line, nothing. It has not shown up in the menu, and i get nothing when i try "whereis linuxconf"

I know the program was installed, as i did it again a couple times...does anyone have any ideas?

dpkg -L linuxconf should tell you where everything went from the package and have you heard of webmin it is packaged in Debian and does similar things.

i just tried dpkg -L linuxconf and it told me it is not installed. today (after doing another debian install yesterday) i compiled and installed the program from source, it told me everything was installed correctly but i can't get to it.

any ideas??
