For information using the latest Sarge installer with the latest 2.6 kernel under expert mode works for SATA drives. Almost certainly won't work with Woody.

installing Linux 8.0
Hi,
I am trying to install Redhat Linux 8.0 on my new Dell Dimension 4700, which has a SATA drive. Installation was successful, however, when it goes to boot up the computer locks on the line "ide0 at 0x1f7, 0X3f6 on irq 14". Any suggestions? I know very little about installing and setting up linux. Thanks for your help! Meredith |
my debian woody installation threw up tons of errors on a desktop. I installed Sarge, and no troubles at all. the hardware support for sarge is way better. Woody uses kernel 2.2 or something.
