i was told that it has a hard time with sata drives which is what im installing on but im not sure why it is hanging. does anyone have any ideas? am i missing something obvious.

For information using the latest Sarge installer with the latest 2.6 kernel under expert mode works for SATA drives. Almost certainly won't work with Woody.

installing Linux 8.0

Hi,

I am trying to install Redhat Linux 8.0 on my new Dell Dimension 4700, which has a SATA drive. Installation was successful, however, when it goes to boot up the computer locks on the line "ide0 at 0x1f7, 0X3f6 on irq 14". Any suggestions?

I know very little about installing and setting up linux.

Thanks for your help!

Meredith

my debian woody installation threw up tons of errors on a desktop. I installed Sarge, and no troubles at all. the hardware support for sarge is way better. Woody uses kernel 2.2 or something.
