Trashcan io problem in sarge

I am currently running Sarge. I did a dist-upgrade from Woody and everything works fine except when I press the delete key, I get this error message:

Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'trash'.
Shift-delete works just fine, there is something wrong with my trash. Any suggestions?

Note: I can click and drag to the trashcan on the desktop, it is just the delete command that has this problem.
