Today's update of Jessie MATE pulls in nearly complete Gnome install

Just to let people who are using MATE know I just updated/upgraded my MATE install and it has pulled in a near full Gnome3 install.

Not a very happy camper, I have a separate MATE because I don't want things like Evolution, gdm3, etc.

Now to remove all the extra things I do not want or need.

During the upgrade process apt (or any apt-based tool to be correct, like Synaptic and aptitude) gives you the option of reviewing the packages it is about to fetch. If you de-select the unwanted packages there you'd a) don't have the data traffic (and time!) for pulling them down in the first place and b) you don't have to comb through your install to purge it of unwanted cr*p.

I am aware of that.
It listed the packages to upgrade (it didn't show any new packages to install) so I let it do it. When I was watching the download process it showed many Gnome packages that weren't listed before.
Anyway after reboot I can't even get into it now so later on I'll chroot into it and see what's gone wrong.
