it's just too damn easy to install, maintain, and it just works . I've been distro-jumping for a couple of years, but whenever I run into problems with other distributions I always come back to Debian. So, the problem with Debian is that everything just works, it's too easy, and then I get bored because there's nothing to tinker with and I start roaming for other distributions where I have to tinker with things to get everything working.
Seriously though, this is a good thing. I love Debian! I can install it on my iBook, i386 desktop, my server, and more. How much better can it get. I'm hooked .
Just thought I'd post something good about Debian rather than posting about a problem. Thanks to all the developers!
Watch out! It's easy for you because you know what you're doing. Every time a post like this comes out, 47 incompetent newbies, fresh from Ubuntu, run out and install Debian. 75% of them can't get the X system working. Since you posted the brag, ... you've got to stick around and answer the same questions from 47 different people ... They also don't know how to search for answers, themselves.
You're probably right. Since I've been messing with different distro's for a few years I'm a "little" wet behind the ears. I'll probably offend all the Ubuntu fan boys', but Ubuntu reminds me of Micro$oft. They just steal other people's ideas to make their own OS with the help of some $$$. Without Debian, Ubuntu would probably fade away and without Debian it would not be as popular or work as well as it does.
I'd be happy to help answer questions whenever I can. It's the least I could do since I'm not a programmer. Although, I have to warn people I'm pretty much a newbie myself.

Altough you are mostly right, I don't fully agree with you in that Debian just works. Sometimes it doesn't, but it is possible to make it work, and making it to work is easy and always succesful. Now I have to admit that I do not do a lot of distro hopping so I don't know if other distro's are better or worse.
I share your dislike for Ubuntu, but not for the reason that they 'borrow' much software from others. It is open source after all. Ubuntu tries to mimick Windows with hiding computer configuration, the command line and the security model as much as possible. Especially the latter is awkward, no root account, and irritating pop-ups asking for a password.
Debian remains my preferred distro, and I have seen no reasons to switch.

If you are bored from Debian's stable (Etch) Distro....why not switch to Debian Testing(Lennny) or even Unstable(Sid). If you like to "tinker", these will give you plenty of opportunity...
