The file on disk may now be truncated!

Every time I am trying to save a document to my usb or move a file in it, I get the following error

PHP Code:
Error opening filePermission denied

The file on disk may now be truncated

What USB are you referring too?

I, for instance, have several usb external enclosures for hdds. I also have usb sticks. These work pretty much the same for me but they are completely different media.

Well that is a bit of help. Some more would be good. Like what size is the bugger? Can you mount it and see files on it? What is it formatted too?

Have you looked at it with some sort of partitioning tool such as gparted, cfdisk or fdisk? Any of those should be able to tell you how full the thing is.

You should probably run, with the card unmounted, fsck to check the file system

so I understand that Linux was able to create the file, but not to write any data to it.
If you do an 'ls' after this, do you see a zero-length file?

Make sure the file system on the memory card is okay. What file system is it using anyway? How much space is left?
How are the permissions a) for the media itself (i.e. for the mountpoint), and b) for the file being created?
Is the behavior different when you try to access the memory card as root?
Try it on a different computer, different distro; if the file system is FAT, try it on a Windows PC.

Any information might help. You've been very terse about that so far.

PS: The error message you showed us has nothing to do with PHP. Why did you tag it as "PHP"?
