the colour black has disappeared from my system ( ?!?! )

i recently did an apt-get upgrade on my system. now, the colour black ( and several other colours ) seemed to have 'disappeared'. i get this when i try to start up aterm :

Code:

aterm: can't load color "Black", colorID = 0, (29)
aterm: can't load color "Black", colorID = 0, (29)
aterm: aborting

i get the same sort of message when i try to start several other programs, including amsn:

Code:

Application initialization failed: unknown color name "Black"
Error in startup script: can't invoke "wm" command:  application has been destroyed
    while executing
"wm state . withdraw"
    (file "/usr/bin/amsn" line 43)

i install X.org from cvs a couple months ago, and the to actually get the apt-get upgrade to work ( it was complaining about xbase-clients ), i had to do some messing around in /etc/X11/xkb. after moving some symlinks around, the upgrade went ahead no problemo. now, no black.

so i'm currently downloading the latest cvs version of X.org to try and solve this problem. but that will take some time, and if anybody has any quick fixes, i'm allllll ears.

thanks,
rebelcan
