system runs hot in Debian but not in windows?

seems to be some sort of system throttling going on in windows.

I have a AMD Phenom II 955 with Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3
when I boot to Debian 6.0.4 amd64 the computer fans start screaming and temps go up on cpu and mobo
vcore voltage in windows sits around 1.0-1.02 at rest but will jump to 1.30 when playing games in windows and temps will go up.

anyway to throttle vcore in linux?
appreciate any help in getting my system to not cook while in linux

Do you have cpufrequtils installed and properly configured?

no but did some searching and will certainly give it a try.
thanks for the reply

weirded out windows7 64bit has dual mode operation throttled down for idle and ramped up for gaming. used to system operating full boar all
the time and is either under idle cpu load or running full boar
no voltage manipulation in older systems. though notebooks did this for power conservation but I am not running no notebook.

seems my mobo has a function called EPU and thats at work
but no linux support for it

Each mobo manifacturer can name the cpu frequency control the way it likes it, but it is the very same thing in any os. Since it is enabled, all you have to do is to make the os control it. And that is what you should enable.

Start with this.
