Synaptic and proxy

Hi

I am trying to use Syaptic from a KDE3 desktop running on Debian SID.

I connect to the internet through a proxy machine with IP address 192.168.0.1 and on port 4480.

I have set the proxy using the Preferences page in Synaptic and still can't use it to update/install packages etc.

The error I am getting is:

Cannot connect to 192.168.0.1:3221 Connection refused.

I have entered the correct port, why is it still trying to connect on port 3221?

I think u r trying to use ftp and that is not working.. well 4480 port is for http and https proxy .. enter port 21 for ur ftp proxy and tell us here..

Have done that. Any changes I make in the port number filed on the GUI do not take effect. The setting seems to be ignored completely and the program uses a (seemingly) random value.

The value does not change between invocations of the program, but I cannot set it.
Is there a .conf file for the program that I could look at manually?
