Strange kernel error: "Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference..."
I've just messed up my fine-working kernel by adding support for my SB LIve! soundcard. I compiled the new kernel without errors, but when booting it I recieved the following msg:
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000004
Then comes an extensive output of registry values, and finally the msg:
Kernel panic: Attemped to kill the idle task!
I've tried to restore order by deselecting the SB Live! support and recompile, but I still get the same error msg. The original debian rc2 kernel boots properly.
Kernel version I use: 2.4.25
Debian version: 3.0 rc2 testing

you CANNOT use a soundcard without sound support in your kernel.

Do I misunderstand something here? I do not whant sound right now, I whant my kernel to work. ALL sound-support is gone, so I don't expect that to work, but I still whant to boot my kernel.
Still, the error msg appears way before sound support os loaded (if used).
