Strange characters on panel

Hello,

please see the image of what happens to my panel. It can happen quite immediately after login, or after awhile after days of successful working

Name:	panel-broken.png
Views:	43
Size:	20.7 KB
ID:	27610

And this is how the panel looks like in the normal state

I use Jessie, my environment is Cinnamon

What are reasons for this, and how to avoid it ?

Thank you

Could you please supplement the pictures with some description of what's going on? It's hard to tell what's troubling you just from the images.

Have you checked the log files for any hints? I'm not sure which file to check; I'd start with /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Next time it happens, use the tail command to look at the newest lines in the log file you are checking.

I don't use Cinnamon, but you might check /var/log to see whether Cinnamon maintains its own log file.

change theme and/or del/ren ~/.cinnamon

Reasons? $HOME/.cinnamon from another distro?
