My settings in /etc/network/interfaces are:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
address 127.0.0.1
netmask 255.0.0.0

iface eth0 inet static
address 10.0.0.8
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 10.0.0.1

#auto eth0

iface wlan0 inet dhcp
netmask 255.255.255.0
wireless-essid SoftBart
wireless-key restricted s:xxxxxxxxxxxxx

auto wlan0

When I needs the LAN I change the auto-settings and

and restart the /etc/init.d/networking.

Works fine for me.

greets,

Theo
