Starting Mouse without Xwindows

Hi There,
Can anyone help me with this problem?, I want to configure my mouse so that it will start in the linux console command line without going into Xwindows. I don't have Xwindows setup on this box. I just want to have my mouse working so I can install some online games.
Any helps would be appreciated. !!
thanks so much

Code:
apt-get install gpm
should do it in Debian.
