splash screen/startup annoyance

Debian Etch... somewhere along the upgrade paths I've taken, the splash screen that appears when gnome is loading gets stuck on my desktop. The little icons for window manager and nautilus load... then it sits there with the icons visible at the bottom of the splash screen - nautilus is the last to load... then the splash screen sits there.

The strange thing is: With one click of the mouse on the splash screen, it disappears as normally it would on it's own.

I've tried reinstalling gdm and nautilus - to no avail.

Anybody know what I need to do to correct this (admittedly) minor annoyance?

its probobly a bug in the package that provides the spalsh stuff for gnome.

I've replaced the splash screen with a custom one anyways... it doesn't matter what the splash screen is, it still does it.

What provides the splash screen anyways? That's why I reinstalled gdm... I thought there was a messed up script somewhere there?
