I am using debian sarge and i cann't control my sound through the sound control icon in the panel...Even if i go to Application/Multimedia/Volume Control, i can either mute the sound or have it set to something that i cannot change. I tried alsaconf and its a bad command, i was wondering if installing alsa will fix the problem?

I tried alsamixer and gnome alsa mixer...Neither worked . Did anybody else have this problem with a Soyo Motherboard on board sound card? I think the problem is they have the stupid 5 channel surround sound on board cards.
