Sound and Video problems
Today I installed Debian Sarge, which I downloaded today. Everything has gone great, except these two problems. Debian even recognized my touchpad mouse, and scroll wheel right after install, which was a huge surprise. I have a gateway 4520GZ laptop.
Edit - I fixed the resolution problem, I only need help with sound now. Second - Sound is not working. sndconfig tells me I have generic alsa i810. I even put myself in the group 'audio'. Nothing. Also - Now when I try to do sndconfig, as root, it says "An error occured while writing the config file." Any help appreciated. I hope I gave you all the info that you need to help me. |
AFAIK sndconfig works OK with OSS and kernel 2.4.x, but not that well with Alsa and kernel 2.6.x. So if you've got 2.6.x kernel, you should probably install Alsa (apt-get install alsa-base) and run (as root) alsaconf and alsamixer.

I have kernal 2.6, and did run alsaconf, but alsamixer won't run for me.

Okay let's try this question. How do I turn off external amplifier? I've looked around, and this seems to be my problem. I can't open alsamixer though....
