Sony DSC-P71 not being picked up properly by Sarge.

Debian Sarge, 2.6.8 kernel, with the udev system. A rather bizarre problem: Plug in the camera, turn it on and the system will ask to import pictures off the camera. Then, it'll tell me it cannot find the camera! And gtkam doesn't pick it up anyway.

Is this a known kernel issue, or am I missing something obvious? Thanks!
