something wrong with mplayer of mine

hey, I installed mplayer via apt-get and when I run it via F2 and enter "gmplayer", then it open & close at the same moment. This is what I found in /var/log/messages
Quote:

Nov 25 17:50:15 edge kernel: Assertion failed! chan->is_active == sg_active(chan->iobase),via82cxxx_audio.c,via_chan_maybe_start,line=1388
My kernel is 2.4.22, GNU/Linux Debian 3.0 sarge up2date
I am listening music via xmms, but I can't go volume up and down from the program, only from speakers.
I don't use any alsa drivers for my sound card, I insert the driver in the kernel and that's all. I don't know what to do now, please help

thanks in advance

mplayer isn't avaliable in the apt archives, for 'stable' or 'testing' not sure about 'unstable', your best bet is to download the mplayer source from www.mplayerhq.hu, configure and compile it (read the docs) and install it. I don't use xmms, so i'm not about that.
