Success! I figured out the problem (well sort of). For some reason I cannot get XF86Config-4 to recognize 1280x1024 in the 2.6 kernel, however, I removed the XF86Config-4 file and ran xf86config (as opposed to dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86) and now I am able to run in 1280x1024 @ 75Hz.

Just thought I would share that with everyone.
