Small (?) Wireless problem
I want to thank those of you who helped me to get my wireless card working on my laptop. I was able to connect to a wireless access point and everything went great. Now I have another small problem.
I gave the laptop to a friend, and the a.p. where he tried to connect isn't working. I believe it may be because there are two wireless networks in that area and perhaps it is trying to connect to both. But I really don't know. When it boots up with the wireless card in, it gets stuck on an endless DHCP cycle of some kind. If the card is plugged in after boot-up, we are unable to set the ESSID (at least this is what I gathered from our phone conversation). Tried "ifup wlan0" and it says it is already configured. "iwconfig wlan0 ESSID lynksys" apparently does not change the ESSID. Does the ESSID change with the AP?
Is there a way (for a Linux wireless n00b) to connect to a specific network when there are multiple ones in range? Also, is there a way to stop the endless DHCP cycling on boot-up?
