Slow connection to the internet... Ideas?

I'm running debian sarge, and I notice there is a considerable lag in the apps that use the internet. It takes a good minute to load a webpage or jump to another link. I've noticed that thunderbird is has the same delay as well. and my irc client has the lag too. I'm just curious if anyone has any idea what's going on. when i use slackware there's no delay whatsoever and it seems only debian and ubuntu seem to have this "lag" It was originally configured by dhcp by my router, however I usually manually configure the network so i can route ports through my router. However the lag still persists with the network manually configured. When I boot windows since this is a dual boot it doesn't have the lag i'be been experiencing with debian/ubuntu. I'm posting right now while using debian. Any thoughts to what's causing this?

check ifconfig and see if you have ipv6 running or lsmod either one will tell you ...I had to delete the module entirely because disabling it in the alias of modutils did not actually disable it for some reason

I had this problem too, only with Debian. It turned out to be /etc/resolv.conf

the first line reads

search net

you need to remove the 'net', that is what was slowing me down.

I actually had to fiddle with dhclient to get it to stop changing it on boot. If that's the problem, let me know and I'll tell you how to do that.
