Shorewall doesn't appear

Hello everyone

I installed shorewall firewall from synaptic but it doesn't appear anywhere at the desktop.I use debian etch and kde.
Also, this happens for other applications too.
When i search it,i found it installed but if i try run it from the directories where i found it ,it doesn't work.I don;t even know of course if i run the appropriate commands

Thanks

Shorewall will not appear on the desktop.
Shorewall is a tool for configuring firewall. You have to edit configuration files first, than start shorewall.
Start your file browser and read docs in /usr/share/doc/shorewall
Everything you need to know to get you started is there.
If you dislike to read documentation you can always install guarddog, since you are KDE user.

I tried guarddog but I didn't like it. Kmyfirewall didn't work at all. then I tried firewall builder (search synaptic for fwbuilder) Its a great tool after some learning, I'm not sure if it can use IPtables more advanced featues but it dose the basics great, it also includes some nice templates to get you started. I couldn't find it in the menu either, so start it in konsole by typeing fwbuilder

One bit of advice. Rather than installing the rules via the inbuilt command, compile them, then move the created shell script to /etc/network/if-up.d and the rules will be activated when the network comes online. you may have to chmod+x it.

the only problem I found is that when useing the command line (konsole, xterm and co don't count) I get messages informing me every time it blocks something. I use konsole for 90% of my command line work so I just ignore it.
