Setting default apps does not work

Hi

I am using ETCH on an ACER lap top (I do all the updates so the system is up to date)

It works really great but for one thing...
I cant get Preferred Applications settings to work for Nautilus and Firefox.

I run only Gnome but use some KDE apps such as Quanta and SMB4K, I have set Firefox/Iceweasel as default browser but Konqueror is launched when I click on an email link. Also when I go to a bookmarked folder in the places menu it also brings up Konqueror, I am not sure if this a bug or I have missed something, Its minor and I can live with it but if somebody has seen this and has a fix I would be grateful....

Note that on my desk top PC running the same distro with the identical software configuration I dont have this?!

What's your email program?

update-alternatives: paramtre inconnu -config
(I installed using french language but am running EN at present, I think my locals are also a bit mixed up... )

The main problem is that konqueror takes over nautilus
