Session management error: Could not open network socket

I'm having a bit of a problem - when I start X apps from the console, they start slowly. Qt-based apps complain about "Session management error: Could not open network socket" after waiting a while. Although, this seems to have no effect on how the app actually runs. However, when I start apps from the KDE menu, they start fine.

Any clues?

Thanks in advance

Just to confirm, are you talking about the text console (ctrl-alt-f1-style) or a console that's running in X?

Does the problem happen if you run a desktop other than KDE (for example, Gnome, or twm)?

To be honest, your problem isn't ringing any bells, but maybe some more information will help us discover the problem.

OK, I found a solution.

rm -rf /var/tmp/kdecache-username/*
