Selecting kernel image

Is there any document that i can find the differences between the kernel images?
Which should i prefer for a penitum 2?

well, the one labled PII might be a good start.

the SMP refers to having 2 CPU's, do you?

i have one cpu

386 and 686 will work both on a P2/P3?
which one should i prefer? are any optimizations to 686?

You should use the one optimized for 686.
