Post segmentation fault!


i was using firefox in debian and suddenly firefox was closed and an error message was given :"segmentation fault". what might be the reason?

the program has accessed an area of memmory that it was not allowed to.
Put another way..
The program has done something that the program designer did not intend it to and crashed.
Can you re-create the problem by doing something specific?

I couldn't re-create the problem. And similar problem with the yahoo messenger. It is not starting at all. The same error message is being displayed - "segmentation fault"..

hmm.



It might me an idea to download the latest versions of firefox .
Did your current version of firefox ship with your distro or did you install it after?

i installed firefox from the cd package itself.

I would say that you should download and install the latest version of firefox,preferably installing it from source.
That way the resulting binary file should be optimized for your distro and your pc.

Did it seg fault as soon as you tried to run it after installing it?
