Screen Resolution. I think kde is screwing it up?

Did an install of Sarge, the other day, and mostly went very well. I had to rundpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 a couple of times and finally got my screen to show a decent resolution. Firstly, I should say, it's an ibm 15 sxga+ tft lcd. When the kernel loads, its shows my resolution as 1400 by 1050, but when KDE starts my resolution is set at 1280 by 1024. If I try to change it, then the screen becomes totally unreadable. Also, one line on my screen looks good (the text) then the next is slightly blurred, then the next is good etc. I've got a ati 7500 mobility which the driver for is loading and the memory size for it, shows correct. I've looked on the ibm web site for the refresh rates but always seem to go around in circles there But have found a page on the web, but I cant make much sense of it. Maybe someone here can. Its here I am worried about this blurred line thing and the garbled screen when I reset my resolution, that I may damage my screen. Heres some lines from my xfree 86 log

So it looks like the driver is loading ok and it detects the right screen, so thats why I was wondering if maybe its KDE having the problem. Hers the relevant part of my xfree config file.

When I would run dpkg configure xfree86, the 1400 by 1050 resolution wouldnt be there so I picked the next lowest resolution. Maybe is this the problem? Any advice always appreciated.

This looks fairly easy to fix. I think you're right that it's related to you picking the closest resolution in dpkg-reconfigure. It's definitely detecting 1400x1050 as a valid mode, but your Display sections only allow 1280x1024. If you change each of these sections to read:

Modes "1400x1050" "1280x1024"

it should work.

You were right misterflibble, it was easy to fix and now I have 1400x1050 resolution and no more blurry lines . I had read about doing that but was a bit paranoid about playing with it for fear of damaging my monitor as I thought it was a little more complex than that. Thank you very much.
