Try the testing version. I belive stable version is really too old.
Everything is fine with me after installing with the 'testing' version.
Nevertheless, not sure about Ethernet card; Debian Stable couldnt recognize my on board ethernet card at that point I added one more ethernet card to my mother board.
Therefore I dont know if testing version can detect your onboard ethernet card.
Correct. As I previously stated, Debian Sarge (or better, the kernel provided with that) is too old to recognize your new hardware. Back in June I've added a PCI network card, based on a Realtek 8139 chip who is really good supported in Linux, when installing Sarge. At that time, it wasn't clear when Etch (Testing) would become Stable, currently that release is scheduled for December. Keep in mind that I've deliberately added an IDE harddisk for the Linux-system to reside on, knowing older Linux distro's (like Sarge) had/have issues with SATA disks.
Hi,
I have a 'Intel PRO/1000 PL Network Connection' (LAN on Motherboard) card in my desktop. I was told that the module to load for this card is e1000. I loaded it.
But 'ifconfig -a' does not show eth0 at all. It shows only lo and sit0. Does this mean that I have not loaded the appropriate module. If Im not loading the proper one where can I find it for this card. Kindly advice.
As you could have read in this thread, I'd suggest to install the latest stable kernel as the Sarge standard kernel is just too old for today's hardware...
