Sarge No Partionable Media SATA Drive

Hi

Just installing Sarge (2 DVD set) on Dell Poweredge SC430 with 160Gb SATA drive.

The installer doesn't recognise the drive.

I get an error telling me that their is no partionable media available etc...

I D/L latest Ubuntu distro and tried that, the installer here sees the drive with no probs.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me please.

TIA

It looks like the Sarge installer, based on kernel 2.6.8, does not recognize your SATA drive. A newer kernel might. You could try installing Etch or Sid rather than Sarge.

I'm not sure, but you may be able to boot with the Sid installer and have it install from stable (Sarge). I seem to remember reading something about this possibility. You would probably have to boot the Sid installer with "expert" or "expert26" to find an option to install stable - if that option even exists at all.

I did a clean install using Debian Sarge 'netinstall' on my SATA system, using this boot parameter:
Code:
linux26
Found my SATA disc, no problems

Hope this works for you too
