Sarge: Mounting /dev/sda4 fails with error code 96

Hello, thanks for reading.

We have a custom Debian 3.1 image with PHP and MySQL and whatnot pre-setup for installation onto new servers as we need them. This issue is new to our eyes, but it may have been there all along...

When booting, the scrolling messages that pass include the lines:
Code:

Error mounting /dev/sda4
* Mounting local filesystems failed with error code 96.

This ext3 partition should mount on /var and when the server is up and running fine, it is indeed mounted right there on /var. So the mount is successful after all, but the error is present at every boot.

I ran fsck from a LiveCD and there were no errors. The original server (from which this install image was made) does not have these errors. A second server installation (different hardware, same image) still does have these errors.

Does any one know what may be causing this error, and ways in which I can attempt to fix it?

If it works then why does the error matter?

Could be symptomatic of something else

As far as this question goes I gat something similar on one of my machines which has (hangs head in shame and embarrasment) an NTFS partition.
While booting there is a line saying that the mount has failed but after boot the partition has been mounted.

It is on my "todo some day" list.

No fixes or suggestions, eh? Well if we solve it I'll post it here...

Thanks for the responses!
