Root in grub-efi-amd64 with raid1

Root in grub-efi-amd64 with raid1

In setting up raid1 I have to specify root in two lines in
dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi-amd64:
set root='.....'
linux /boot/vmlinuz-4.8.0-1-amd64 root=UUID=..... ro quiet
but I don't see how.

For the setup I follow the tutorial/blog of Francois Marier:
https://feeding.cloud.geek.nz/posts/...d-on-existing/
with adaptations for my situation, which is:
- debian stretch
- two disks, with partitions:
/def/sda1 /dev/sdb1 for efi, no raid
/def/sda2 /dev/sdb2 for raid1 on /md/data
/def/sda3 /dev/sdb3 for raid1 on /md/swap

I chose /md/data and /md/swap in stead of the usual md0, md1 etc,
but in the grub2-syntax I couldn't find how to specify root now.

In following Marier, all went well till I came to step 5:
Reboot using the RAIDed drive and test system:
my roots were wrong, and dpkg-reconfigure didn't show a window
in which I could specify my raid devices.

I'm assuming you are using mdadm for the RAID. GRUB still needs a hardware disk to write/boot, not your software RAID.

Your boot disk is probably /dev/sda.
