Resolution, stuck at 800 x 600!?

Its been a while since I've used Debian, in the past I had the correct resolution. My resolution is stuck at 800 x 600, so I edited my xf86config and did it correctly. Restarted X, still at 800 x 600, so I went to KDE's control center, couldn't go any higher.

What else should I do, it's probably an easy thing to do, however I can't find anything on google.

Try running xfree86config to set all the parameters of your graphic card. It could help. Perhaps you made some mistakes editing te xfree86.conf file?

I did it again, no mistakes. I've done it about 100 times in my life :p

Is it onboard graphics? Try to free more memory for the card in BIOS.

Which config file are you editing, XF86Config or XF86Config-4?...................If you're using the Sarge release of Debian, you will need to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to get it working correctly............I found this out by trial and error not too long ago, myself.......In fact what I did was to rename the older XF86Config file to XF86Config-4, and make a XF86Config symlink (cd /etc/X11 && ln -sf XF86Config-4 XF86Config) to cover all the bases..........

HTH :)

I had the same problem with my monitor which i spent days on trying to configure_In the end i installed Ubuntu on my machine and printed out the XF86Config-4 file and copied it reinstalled debian with the new information.
