what does your lilo.conf look like?

reen 09-02-2003 09:52 PM

my lilo con is pretty much the same as it is set up by the installer... i just add the propper pathes to the new kernel and change vga=normal to either ask or the exact 0x02C. i cant give you a more precise answer couse i am writing this under win sicne x doesnt work yet.
i remember that under gentoo this did the trick and also with former debian installs

not sure, but the man page says for 80 X 50 mode, try
vga=extended (or ext)

yo thats right. the problem is not the lilo.conf, i think.
when this line is executed at boottime the screen switches properly into the new text mode. but only for about half a second a then back into the ugly big one. so it is somehow working but... i dont know....

penguin_warrior 09-02-2003 10:22 PM

dunno, unless there are 2 vga entries in your lilo.conf (one near the top and one at your kernel entry) that are conflicting.....
...lame, but you never know.... sorry.
(i'd love to peek at your lilo.conf, but......

actually, you might want to do
dpkg --reconfigure xserver-xfree86
(something like that)
to reconfigure X. not sure if that would help your boot, but without X, your posibilities are reduced.

links or lynx are console web browsers which are useful for communicating without x and would let us see your lilo.conf.

so sorry man... tried, but i have to go down for tonight...early day tomorrow!
