I think there are major problems with my apt-get program.

I added following repository to my sources.list file but when I did apt-get updated I received errors.

Errors are as following . I want to install realplayer and acroread . Is ther any other repository for that ?

That repository has changed to

deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main

Personally, I don't use proprietary software when free is available

Try evince

Hi,

which "free" software do you suggest to replace acroread ? I have used xpdf and kpdf but they seem to be very primitive, many features are missing. Though, I dont know much about their current versions but the older versions were not optimum.

Moreover, my problem with the multimedia repository is still the same !

If I remember well, I downloaded Acrobat Reader from Adobe itself.

Yes, but they generally provide RPM or source code. I dont want to mess up the system by compiling something which is already available as binary.

Now, my multimedia repository is working, so I can apt-get acroread, but as suggeted by Rich, I would really be interested in using non-proprietory counterpart if I can get comparable features.

Hardik

You are right, I must have downloaded it from somewhere else. Stupid.

Anyway, once in a while I am installing a machine which does not have Adobe yet, and all other PDF readers I know of miss things Adobe has.

The most important feature I missed was the ability to perform a text search thru an entire document. Maybe the new versions included in Etch are better, I don't check them thouroughly yet.

So I consider Adobe reader still as something which is essential to a Linux installation.

Hi jlinkels,

Add following repository to your sources.list and apt-get install acroread.

If you have problems with gpg signature of that repository read the post
