Replacing a Cdrom Issue

Heya guys, I have an old CD rom on my Debian Lenny box, I replaced it with a newer DVD rom from another machine I had, but now when I rip audio tracks, the MD5 sums never match up. Tried it with a CD/RW also from another machine and the same result. But when I throw my oldschool Cdrom back in, it can rip audio tracks that match every time.

Do you need to do/change/set anything after replacing a CD/Dvd rom in linux, like maybe it isnt, i dunno, configured right somewhere?

Thanks guys.

No.
What exactly do you mean by "rip audio tracks", and "MD5 sums never match up", what kind of ripping are you doing, are you copying music data?, decompressing MP3's? I've never heard of MD5 being associated with ripping music. Could you elaborate pls.
When you rip a music CD from MP3's or WMA or some form of compressed archive, it is decompressed and recorded in .wav format, which will be larger and will have a different MD5 SUM. When you make an MP3 disc, you're just making a data disc, the MD5 should match.

BTW:
A CD ROM, and a DVD ROM, can be iterpreted as "CD/DVD Read only memory", read only means you can't write to the disk. Or did you mean CD-RW/DVD-RW (read/write)?

some ripping software will rip twice and compare the md5 of them both to see if they are the same. its to ensure there were no errors.
